I think fun should be the primary reason. Second, as Arnel already mentioned, should be for breaking your own personal performance goals. To some people, drag racing is more fun than road racing. I really don't care, just as long as the car is being mechanically utilized and enjoyed. Any form of racing makes much more sense than having a pretty show car that you don't push the limits of.
